Photography Exhibition, "A Closer Look," at the Adler Center for Aphasia

There are many people in the world who used to live normal lives, who used get up in the morning every day to go to work, until one day their lives drastically changed.

Brain injuries as a result of automobile accidents, falls, etc., may cause head injuries leading to aphasia – losing the ability to speak, write and understand spoken and written language. Those who suffer from the effects find it difficult to express their thoughts and desires verbally. Communication with their families becomes challenging.

Ronnie Tuvia, a graduate of the Department of Photographic Communications and Sara, a successful speech therapist from the Adler Aphasia Center at Hadassah College, conducted a photography workshop attended by five members of the center.

Photography workshops facilitate the possibility of creating a method of nonverbal communication through photography and other tools. Group members, students in every sense of the word, learned about the world of photography, photography techniques, and began to develop a personal photographic language.

After one year of experience with photography, members presented their personal work in the exhibition "A Closer Look," which was displayed in the Department of Photographic Communications.

The exhibition allowed the members to illustrate their abilities to the community instead of being perceived for their communication difficulties and failures.
