Last month, 15 students from the Department of Biotechnology, in collaboration with local residents and volunteers came together to create a project "For the Community" to improve the lives of residents by improving the environment.
The Sculpture Garden Nehorai, Katamon
The students built a fence in the garden and created a walking trail around the sculpture garden that surrounds the southern community council, the adjacent community garden for local families, and the anthroposophy community gardens.
The Garden "Orchard " in Kiryat Menachem
Students helped to renovate and upgrade the garden by making it into a cultural center. It includes a stone-built amphitheater and a community cafe, where community events were held during Passover. As part of the initiative, students renovated the amphitheater, rearranged the garden, cleaned the herbarium and created signage for the event.
Feedback received by area residents:
"I visited the garden on Saturday and the work was really, really beautiful. Well done! I was very happy to see the combined efforts among students, residents and parents of kindergarten students. I'm sure this will have a positive impact on the neighborhood. I am very happy to see the successful cooperation in this project and I wish for many more joint initiatives in the future. "
"I see the results of this amazing project several times a day. It is worth every second of my time. I want to thank everyone and tell you that I have great respect for your work."
"I want to thank everyone who made time to take part in this amazing initiative. It was heartwarming to see children and parents, people in the neighborhood and students from work with enthusiasm, by creating something from an idea. This will serve every child that comes to the area. The essence of education: actions, not words. A child who attends the event will carry within a positive experience of trust in the world and in people. The child will experience the good and the commonalties between people, rather than the differences that divide us. I am grateful to you all. The parents who participated really enjoyed themselves and believe in the importance of your work."
