New antiviral drugs are urgently needed to address viruses that cause a variety of illnesses in humans. Plants could be a good source of antiviral drugs as demonstrated in a new study led by Dr. Sigal Matza-Porges from the College's Department of Biotechnology. In this study, a fast and reliable method for screening plant extracts for specific antiviral activity Herpes simplex virus type-1 (HSV-1) was developed.

This innovative study was published in the Journal of Virological Methods.
