A seminar took place last week in cooperation with the Helix - Healthcare Innovation visual therapy laboratory and the Department of Inclusive Industrial Design. The Helix - Healthcare Innovation visual therapy laboratory is a unique design department at the London Royal College of Art's Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design based in London's St. Mary's Hospital. T The Healthcare Research Lab investigates effective, systems-based design solutions to current and future healthcare challenges. They carry out research with patients and clinicians, and collaborate through the processes of co-design and evaluation, working with industry partners to help to bring ideas to commercial reality. The Center's design manager came to the College to lead a one week seminar on user focused design in a medical environment. During the seminar, the students examined the diagnostic process and treatment in the visual therapeutic clinic; the means available to the patients and caregivers; their needs and aspirations. The solutions focused on improving and making the processes more efficient, while relating to the therapists, patients and functionality end experiential needs as one.

Fusion Glasses Design: Moriah Mashish, Daniel Jerphy, Roie Elitzur, Nicole Doblon. An eye exercise for lack of coordination or double vision. The compact design of this solution is easy to use and potentially inexpensive –an alternative for an existing product that is heavy, clumsy and expensive. With the use of mirrors, the devise can be held at the required distance from the eyes using a small and light product in the shape of glasses.
