Irit Shmuel is the Head of the Tourism track in the Department of Management. She is the first Israeli academician to recently participate in the Jinhau Historical Villages Project, Wuyi county, China.

The aim of the project is to promote an understanding of the historical villages of Jinhua, Zhejiang Province by direct experience of local culture.

Initiated in 2015, the program has attracted over 200 participants to date from 30 countries. Each group includes 40 participants from overseas and 10 local participants from China. Participants live in a traditional village for three weeks and learn about traditional Chinese culture, architecture, and folklore.

The project is part of an effort by the Chinese government to transform these historic villages into international centers for ecotourism and leisure holidays, while preserving original elements of local culture.
