A thousand students participated in Social Responsibility Week events, which included a variety of community outreach activities.
The community involvement programs organized by the Office of the Dean of Students at Hadassah College are held throughout the year. These programs encourage students to actively contribute to the community in cooperation with dozens of organizations throughout the city.
In order to honor and strengthen community outreach, the College decided to mark Social Responsibility Week; a thousand students participated in this event. In addition to the ongoing social involvement activities, special extra activities were also held during the week, such as the public garden renovation on Stern Street, re-painting an apartment of a senior Jerusalem resident, painting wall murals in a nursing home.
In addition, students attended a variety of lectures given by inspirational persons, such as Hagit Ron Rabinowitz, mother of a low-functioning autistic child. She devotes her time to explaining and raising public awareness of this complex problem. Sami Siroa, the bubble interpreter on television and at President’s House talked about the life of deaf and hard-of-hearing.
During the Social Responsibility Week, 19 certificates were awarded to students who achieved outstanding results in community outreach in the past year. The certificates were awarded as part of the Dean's Ceremony held at the College.
In addition, the college opened sales booths on behalf of a variety of social associations: wood and textile handicrafts by the “Summit” institute for mentally ill, paper and chocolate products by "Sheculo Tov" association, easy-to-love gifts by “SHEKEL” and works of art by “Akim”.
Prof. Bertold Fridlender, President of the Hadassah Academic College stated: "As an academia we believe that instilling social values in our students is a must and not a choice, and therefore we wish to mark the extensive and important activities taking place throughout the year and strengthen the idea of community outreach”.
