Master's Degree Program in Medical Laboratory Sciences (MMLSc)
Goals
The program prepares students for the advanced world of medical laboratories by providing them with a broad scientific foundation, exposing them to scientific and medical innovations, training them in efficient management strategies and introducing them to advances in various fields of research (microbiology, virology, biochemistry, metabolism, hematology, genetics, genomics, molecular biology, reproductive biology, pharmacology, QC and management etc.).
General Description
The graduate program in Medical Laboratory Sciences at the Hadassah Academic College is the only program of its kind in Israel, and it has been designed especially for professionals in medical laboratories. As part of the program, students take courses from various clinical fields which offer advanced scientific knowledge as well as an understanding of diverse diagnostic methods developed in recent years to identify and diagnose various diseases.
In addition to the scientific and technological aspects of the program, students acquire general managerial skills with emphasis on issues relevant to lab work in order to prepare them for management positions as senior lab workers, team leaders, etc.
The program consists of 42 credit hours taken over a 2-year period. Classes take place one full day a week on campus and one additional evening a week through distance learning. Instruction is in Hebrew with one course (Inborn Errors of Metabolism) offered in English. Faculty members are experienced specialists, laboratory directors and renowned researchers in their respective fields.
The program includes visits to advanced medical laboratories: in 2024 students visited the Progenin laboratories in Jerusalem.

Admissions Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- A bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences with a minimum average grade of 80 from a recognized institution of higher education or a bachelor’s degree in Biology, Biotechnology or a related field, with a minimum average grade of 80 from a recognized institution of higher education, subject to supplementary studies.
- Submission of a resume.
- Submission of two recommendations:
- One from a supervisor or laboratory director pertaining to the applicant’s practical work
- One from a faculty member at an institution of higher education pertaining to the applicant’s academic achievements or research experience
Supplementary Studies
Candidates who do not hold a bachelor's degree in medical laboratory sciences will be required to take an intensive supplementary course comprising a total of 8 academic credits (112 cumulative hours). The course will be offered during the summer preceding the start of the master's program and will cover the following subjects: medical microbiology, medical biochemistry, human genetics, hematology, developmental biology, and parasitology.
Hebrew Proficiency Requirement for Non-Native Hebrew Speakers
Candidates whose native language is not Hebrew are required to present a score of 120 on the YAEL (Hebrew Proficiency) test.
